I don't know if any of you have ever had to do a partial withdrawal before the age of 59.5, but I have found myself in a negative cash flow situation with some big debt and have just pulled the trigger for 80k. I don't need that much but I have calculated the tax hit for both fed and state as well as the 10 percent penalty attached. I hate to see my account drop so much, but it will clear my debt and stop me from living on credit cards. Also note, when one does this, you cannot contribute to tsp for 6 months. And no, I didn't opt for a loan as I could not afford the biweekly payments for 5 years.
