You also have to consider tax credits that you may be eligible for. Previously, I created a spreadsheet that would automatically calculate my tax return to play with the numbers. Some credits are refundable such as EIC and should be considered as well.

In seeing just the enlisted military investment side, I thought most TSP investors had similar situations. This conversation has definitely opened my eyes to how different incomes and ages can make the Roth a less appealing option. I will definitely reevaluate my contributions if my income rises to the point where I don't get all of my taxes back and it begins to affect my investment percentage.
