Just a correction to your terminology or thinking, you don't get taxed when they take it out of your paychecks.  It's withholding for taxes you might be liable to pay at the end of the year.  You get your refund because you had too much withheld.  Don't let that happen!  You're giving an interest free loan to Uncle Sugar.  You can adjust your withholding pretty easily.  Best case is to shoot for you owing the gov't somewhere between Zero and $100.  Never let someone else use your money for free.  A bank won't let you do it.  (Except in the case of a credit card when you pay it off each month.)  BTW, a good practice would be to take what you're no longer paying in withholding and invest or save it.  T

Also, I get all of my taxes back when I file each year, as most military enlisted do. So I get taxed, get it back at the end of the year, and now have a tax free retirement fund. Not a hard choice to make.
