Also keep in mind deploying to tax free zones. Then the regular TSP is tax free for life. The TSP will keep that money separate from the rest.

In seeing just the enlisted military investment side, I thought most TSP investors had similar situations. This conversation has definitely opened my eyes to how different incomes and ages can make the Roth a less appealing option. I will definitely reevaluate my contributions if my income rises to the point where I don't get all of my taxes back and it begins to affect my investment percentage.
