The best time to sell is when the markets are up but this depends on your age, retirement time horizon, etc. Having now dispensed this useless and after the fact piece of wisdom in light of the blood in the streets today (Wall Street), there might be a day soon where oil does rally (for a day or two) and the market goes up (oil and equities price actions are undeniably linked). Let's hope it is one of those rip your face off rallies that makes you question if now is really the best time to move to G fund because it would be nice to make a little, right?

Such a rally will no doubt be fueled by short covering both in oil and stocks - just so you know ahead of time and recognize it for what it is. This is a "Bear Rally" and when it comes I will cover my shorts and make money as well. For my TSP account, I will look for oil to go to the low twenties or teens. We'll reach the latter price when the world tanker fleet goes to anchor because the last empty refinery storage tank was filled - perhaps in March when refineries shut down for changover to the summer time blends.

Such an event will drive markets lower because OPEC countries have been selling off their petro-investments to keep their economies afloat. This is when will think about re-enty to C, S, or I funds; or the Fed rolls back rates or stops raising them. The oil scenario may sound extreme but 20 dollar oil was the prediction in this week's Barrons - I added the part about tankers at anchor because it is actually possible since producers show no signs of slowing. More than you wanted to know right?

I am now 75% G and 25% F. There is more
downside for crude oil. If it does go to $20 a barrel I see
SP much lower than today.
