School teachers get paid very little in my district. A new teacher can't even afford an apartment by themselves. My daughter is a high school teacher and even with a masters degree she can just barely make it.

School teachers get paid well in my district, and do less than my father did (he retired 15 years ago). They get paid more for the "wrong reasons" in my opinion. If they have a masters (which they are now required to do within 10 years), they get an increase. A doctorate - another increase. Not just an increase, but a permanent bump in pay scale. Why exactly does a teacher need a research degree like a masters or doctorate to teach at that level? No idea. Teachers that have more experience that are good teachers can make less than a new one with a masters who hasn't spent a year in the classroom. I saw how much extra time my dad put in at home and after school. Now the teachers union "restricts" how much of that they do. The other big change with curriculum is that many now don't even "teach" - they are required to present the subject in a specific way using specific tools - a lot less freedom and actual teaching.

You obviously have no idea what school teachers have to do to earn their keep. Teachers don't make enough money in my opinion. How you look at teachers is how the private sector looks at what you do for a living. That's the problem we all assume we do more then the next person.
