Re: [TSP_Strategy] Question on I Fund

Yeah I hear ya. The lowest concentration of G is the L2050, which has 12% the last time I looked but it has too much C and not enough S for my liking. I'm with you - I'd rather do it on my own. I don't use G at all unless the market appears to be topped out, or close to it.

I prefer to stay as far away from the G fund as i can. You can mimic any life cycle fund on your own though the letter funds but i like to do it with out the G fund. Just too conservative. Even the life cycle funds contribute too much tit for my liking generally. All if the markets were in free fall thats the place I'd run to.

"2040 and 2050" (L Funds) are simply a mix of the main 5 funds. For those who prefer to set it and forget it, the L Funds are ok. The mix is "professionally" rebalanced as they seem fit but they do post the percentage mix on the TSP page. I prefer to have control of where my money goes so I like to allocate whatever percentage that I want in (and going to) each fund. For the "safety" aspect, one could simply put whatever percentage they want to the G Fund.

Keep some im the I rhis year r hw I fund will do very well. Im 35 in the S 35 in the C 30 in the I. If i moved anything id move more into the C or into the 2040 or 2050 for a little more safety.

Thanks for the reply.  I went to the link and it can be helpful. However my question has to do with moving from I fund to S fund.  Since it has been reported that S fund  will rise this coming year,  I wanted to know what would be the criteria for when to move to S.  In other words,  is now as good a time as any? Or do we need to hit a certain threshold?  I'm not up on market indicators like the rest of the folks so that's why I'm asking.  Also what are people's thoughts on a 50/50 allocation of funds between the C and S. Thanks.

this can help answer your questions about S, C, I, F, G funds.

My boss is in 100% I fund because he was not aware of this group. Would this be a good time to move to S or should he wait?

What do other members think of 50% S and 50% C.

Thanks
