About Tammy Flanagan
Tammy Flanagan is widely recognized as the federal retirement benefits expert who is able to handle the tough questions by providing easy to understand answers. Tammy consults with, and trains, federal employees at every stage of their career to help set and achieve their retirement goals. She also provides assistance to federal retirees as they live out their retirement as they encounter life events.
Tammy has served as the Senior Benefits Director for the National Institute of Transition Planning, Inc. since 1988. She began her career in the 1980's during the implementation of the FERS while working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a retirement counselor and employee benefits specialist. She transitioned to full-time training after leaving federal service in 1988. You may have seen Tammy at an NITP seminar in the Washington, DC, area, across the country, or as far away as Thailand. Tammy continues to provide live training with NITP, Inc. at conferences, pre-retirement seminars, mid-career planning seminars and new employee orientations. You may contact NITP, Inc. Administrator to have Tammy provide pre-retirement training at your agency. Tammy has authored a 150-page seminar guide that will accompany her live presentations.
She often co-hosts For Your Benefit, a radio program heard on Washington's WFED (AM 1500) and www.federalnewsradio.com.
Tammy has also become a popular presenter in a variety of web-based training events and has been showcased in a year-long webinar series for www.fers-route-to-retirement.com. For this webinar series, Tammy has partnered with financial planning expert, Micah Shilanski, CFP. The FERS Route to Retirement webinars provide the same information as Tammy provides during her live seminar presentations along with added insight to how the retirement benefits relate to setting your financial planning goals and understanding the tax planning issues. The information is presented in hour long web-based training segments that are fun and engaging and above all, informative. For those who enroll in the "annual pass" there is access to all of the webinars that Tammy and Micah produce for an entire year and they will cover the following topics with each topic broken into three one-hour segments of training:

Employees Association. She has been quoted in the Federal Diary in the Washington Post and numerous Federal employee publications, including the Federal Times and Government Executive Magazine. She was one of Money
Magazine's 40 "Money Heroes" in 2012.
Tammy lives on Florida's Suncoast with her recently retired husband. She has always said that the next best thing to being a federal employee is to marry one and that's what she did in 1980. Tammy also maintains a home in the Washington, D.C., area so that she can be available to provide service to the many federal employees in the Washington Metropolitan area.
