Sarah, I was looking back roughly two decades of SPX chart and identified 9 different cases of crossing. 8 out of 9 was right signal and one that was a false trigger was during 2011 correction that took almost 20% hit, then continued the uptrend started in 2009. Even with that false trigger in 2011, if you got out during the bounce and get back in as soon as the buy signal generated, you wouldn't missed much gain at all. Just try for yourself if you have data available.
