I've given more thought to your question. What you are trying to do is time the market on the sell side and buy the market using dollar cost averaging. Have you considered the reverse. I've read where, on average, most times folks can pick the right buy price but usually sell at the wrong price. They are calm and rational when buying. But when it comes time to sell greed gets in the way -- hoping it will go a little higher or upset that price backed away from the high and hang on until it reaches that high again. Then it slips below the price they bought it at then stubbornly want it to get back at a get even price. Then it drops even more and fear takes over and they sell in a panic.
