I retired as a GS 09 with 30 years under the old system. My retirement check is good because I maxed out my TSP for the last 10 years. However hubby had a serious stroke (feeding tubes and all) and social worker said we don't qualify for anything based on my retirement and TSP. I couldn't afford LTC when I was working. So damn if you do or don't get it. Nursing homes here are about $8000 a month. I paid $358 for respite care for 12 days! Geesh
