In situations like this, it would be helpful if the TSP offered the opportunity to invest in at least some inverse funds. Perhaps that will occur in the future.
With respect to the article, a few comments...
1. The world did not enter a global recession on Jan 1. It has BEEN in a global recession and actions are being taken worldwide to slow it and eventually turn it around. Japan has been most aggressive in this regard.
That said, as I have stated in the past, the US currently maintains the strongest markets in the world, and our markets have been bullish albeit sluggish. That is not to say, of course, that we cannot be dragged back down into a recession by world events, just that it is less likely to occur here.
