Thanks Mike for the helpful info; I agree the L Funds are conservative so that's a reason I have a portion of the TSP as "play"money that I move around chasing higher returns. I just don't have the guts to move it all.
Good point S Fund is Not "all eggs in one basket"; maybe we can modify the statement to all eggs in one basket, a basket which tends to be more volatile than others. I totally agree S usually outperforms, but "One disadvantage of the S Fund is that it is more volatile than C. It is the most volatile of the five TSP traditional funds." Arthur Stein, CFP
Another reason I'm OK with the conservative TSP is because the bulk of my outside investments are more aggressive, that's something for us to consider is our total wealth mix.
