Re: [TSPStrategy] Next Decade Predictions?

I wouldn't expect a 3% return yearly. You should get some large returns and some negative. We will probably get at least another recession or 2. They seem to come around about every 3-7 years. But who knows what will happen with wars and natural disasters. These events all affect the market. In the short term, sure it is possible that politics will have some affect.....especially if taxes are increased on corporations, that could have a negative affect. But who will win the next election in 4 years and 8 years, and what policies will that person have?  If you are long then just stay the course in S but if you are getting ready to retire and need the TSP money then you might protect some of your earnings.

I didn't phrase my question well at all.  I've been getting good returns thanks to Sarah and have been all in S for quite some time.  I'm hoping to hit the million mark by age 56/57, but that's with 8 percent returns per year.  What I meant is that a lot of news stories say the next ten years will be flat in terms of returns, around 3 percent a year.  I was just curious if that's the general feeling out there, that returns will be flat for the next decade.
