i have been retired since 3/31/2016 and wont need my TSP until around 6/8/2019 when i hit age 70.5 and have to take required distributions.
sure wish I had used the 100% "all in" for the 5-10 years previous to retiring. another decimal point to the right would have been verynice

Bill and Jim are hitting important points. Yes it does sound very conservative. My personal experience with this group is that I made more since following the group strategy (I. E. Currently 100% S.) than letting fear take its toll on my yearly returns. I have done well and still have a ways to go until I will dip into my TSP, which brings up another good point made by others; when you retire is not necessarily your goal line for use of the funds.
Sarah shared a great article a while back on how fear kills your returns. A little knowledge and a good bunch of folks goes a long way!
