FWIW -- I've referred to TSP Center and mentioned 50- and 200-day moving averages (MAs) over a dozen times each since joining the TSP Strategy group in late 2013.
I find those longer simple MAs quite helpful for making adjustments among the 3 to 5 TSP Funds I hold in my allocation at any time. I don't think shorter MAs are as helpful for long term investors with only 2 unconstrained moves per month.
I suppose some might be able to use that information to help make 100% moves into one TSP Fund. But that always seems like trying to time the market, which seems too risky to me.
One of the nice features of the free TSP Center site is I can easily select the calendar dates to view on the 50- and 200-day MA charts -- zooming in on the late summer through late fall of 2015 that Robert cites for example.
That makes it easier to see what trends or warning signs I may have missed before. More importantly, how to anticipate them in the future. I hope this helps, and good luck!

looking at the graphs for the F, C, S, I funds with overlaid MA's (simple moving avgs) it certainly looks like the F fund is only one consistantly above both the 10 and 20 day MA's AND in an upward trend.Since we can only move the TSP 3x per month, (the 3rd move being ONLY to G fund)(unless the rules have changed) you cannot catch the volatility, just keep a wary eye on things.I REALLY dont like the graph of the I fund w/MA since it looks trending down and C&S look too "bouncy/volatile"this may change in the coming months and i seriously wish i had had this info back in November/december 2015. a simple move to G would have saved me a -->years salary.
