If a fund goes down (your premise), your losses are the same whether they come from your existing account value or from new contributions. You can assert that you're "buying low" - this is technically correct only for the moment. It only remains true if you believe the funds are about to go up in which case you should not be moving your existing assets into G.
I understand the emotion here but it is simply misguiding you in this case.
