Re: [TSP_Strategy] Not Exactly Getting Rich

I agree that we as a well to do, free society shouldn't stand by and not do anything for those that need assistance. There are plenty of people of all classes that give quite a bit to the charities of their choice, and help those in need, particularly in their local communities. The difference of opinion is that I don't believe the "safety nets" the federal gov't has setup are the answer. Who is to judge that certain groups of people have more than they'll ever need? We hear this from rich politicians and Hollywood all the time, yet THEY are the rich. They seem to exclude themselves from the conversation because it's certainly always easier to spend someone else's money. "Everyone needs to give their fair share" is the latest mantra, yet if all "the rich" (even if it were the top 5%) gave every single dime they had to the U.S. Gov't, it would only be enough to run it and these programs for a very short time (mere months). When we get back to the states embracing their rights and powers, where the heart of the representative republic form of gov't we were founded on lies, and away from too much overreach and control at the federal level, we'll all be better off.

The question is whether we, as a rich and free society, can stand by and watch our social safety net be destroyed by those who have more than they will ever need, and yet continue to take actions to further increase their wealth on the backs of the poor and middle class.

Taxes in this nation have been significantly cut since the 1980s, particularly to the wealthiest Americans, which has had the effect of benefiting them at the expense of the poor and middle class. As taxes have been cut, pensions have been eliminated, and federal/state/local aid to education, police, fire, sanitation, transportation, health care, the arts, have all been reduced or eliminated.  As such, the cost of all these areas have grown beyond the means of the poor and middle class.

I agree that a "redistribution of wealth" is unfair. We have had a redistribution of wealth in this country since the 1980s. It HAS been unfair, and it has hurt most families in the USA. IMHO, it will have to change if this nation is to survive. We need to move back to being a democracy, and away from being a plutocracy.
