Allen, not sure about a renewable credit, but I can tell you how the tax credits works in North Carolina.
1. You get back %30 of installation costs for Federal taxes; that pretty much wiped out my federal tax bill this year.
2. 2015 was the last year for the N.C. state credit of %35. You can only claim up to %50 of the years total state tax bill, so it's going to take 3 years of paying half the tax bill to get that money.
3. And now I basically don't have a power bill. (still a monthly "customer fee")
