If you are truly worried about some of these end of the world scenarios, consider this:
You cannot eat gold.
You cannot plant gold.
You cannot drink gold (goldschager excepted).
Gold will not provide you shelter.
Gold is worth only what people are willing to trade for it. The value of gold is a currency, just like anything else, it just isn’t backed by a government. Its backed by the assumed intrinsic value of the metal, which as Sara said, fluctuates as do other currency prices. Gold really isn’t worth anything more than what people believe it is worth. Until the “doomsday” happens and you need it, it just sits there loosing value, or you lost opportunity costs. I’ll steer clear of it myself.
