Here's what the market will do: it will either go up....or down. If anyone claims they can tell you more exactly what the market will do, they are being disingenuous at best. This group simply tries to time the market while undertaking a significantly higher level of risk, and it has not performed any better over the last 10 years than the overall S&P500. The biggest reason for that, and Sarah will tell you this, is because she didn't "time" the market correctly during the 2008 downturn. Again, no one knows what the market will do.
Chris- just the fact that you are on here looking for answers with regards to your retirement/investment decisions relays that you are very inexperienced with investment related principles. And there is nothing wrong with that. However, for someone in your situation, I'd recommend against gambling your TSP when you are already retired. And by seeking advice on here, that's essentially what you are doing.
I rarely recommend this, but for someone in your position, go find a fee-based (NOT commission) CFP/CFA that has a fiduciary responsibility to you. Develop a plan with them, based on from where/when you intend to draw your retirement income over your retirement years. Do NOT take advice from a message board consisting of people in your similar situation. It is well worth the small investment to develop a plan with a CFP. Once you have a plan, be consistent and stick to it. Trying to get advice from an online group (for any reasons other than entertainment) is simply the blind leading the blind.
Just my $.02.

I am still very inexperienced but just looking at the fund we are currently in, in 2008 the fall was recovered 2 years and the S&P 500 recovered in 4. I know for myself I plan to start converting to low risk at about 10 years and have a low risk investment at 6. Depending on when the last "freefall" happened around that time. My opinion of this will change the more market falls I get to experience in my lifetime and how long those falls last. You know your situation best, and I don't have any idea what situation I will be in come my retirement. If I have pension or other income, my risk would go up and down if I fully relied on my retirement. On Thursday, April 23, 2015 6:50 AM, "Jspowell99 JSPowell99@yahoo.com [TSP_Strategy]" <TSP_Strategy@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
2008 wasn't a "correction", it was freefall (caused by factors not associated with typical market functions). The upcoming correction should not be as severe and, in my opinion, 11 years is plenty of time to recover typical losses.Heck, there will most likely be further corrections within that timeframe.John

We all know that there is a correction coming soon, but I guess my question is, if we have a correction similar to 2008, would I have enough time to recover any losses in the 11 years I have left until my RMD date ?ThanksChris
