Re: [TSP_Strategy] TSP Investment

I am still very inexperienced but just looking at the fund we are currently in, in 2008 the fall was recovered 2 years and the S&P 500 recovered in 4. I know for myself I plan to start converting to low risk at about 10 years and have a low risk investment at 6. Depending on when the last "freefall" happened around that time. My opinion of this will change the more market falls I get to experience in my lifetime and how long those falls last.

You know your situation best, and I don't have any idea what situation I will be in come my retirement. If I have pension or other income, my risk would go up and down if I fully relied on my retirement.

2008 wasn't a "correction", it was freefall (caused by factors not associated with typical market functions).

The upcoming correction should not be as severe and, in my opinion, 11 years is plenty of time to recover typical losses.

Heck, there will most likely be further corrections within that timeframe.

Would like any members thoughts or advice on TSP Strategy.

I retired in 2011 at age 55 under FERS and left my TSP in the G fund up to about a year and a half ago and I transferred it all to the C Fund.
My wife who is CSRS was attending a Pre-retirement Planning by Union Consulting, Inc. and one of the pre-retirement specialist whom has done a lot of research and investing stated that you should not invest your TSP based on withdrawing at your retirement age, but to invest it based on when your planning to start withdrawing and that if you are planning on waiting to your mandatory RMD's at 70 1/2, you should leave your money in the C or S funds to keep building your retirement portfolio nest egg.

Any thoughts on this strategy ?  We all know that there is a correction coming soon, but I guess my question is, if we have a correction similar to 2008, would I have enough time to recover any losses in the 11 years I have left until my RMD date ?

Thanks

Chris
