The broader point of the whole discussion on performance is that it is not a good expenditure of time to try and time the market - especially on a short term basis picking various sectors and asset classes in the market.  The effort will lead to sub-par results the vast majority of the time, as we have just demonstrated with the results of the  S&P 500 beating the advisory services over the long run!  I realize the intentions are good, but this whole practice will do more harm than good.  If you do not believe me do a search for Warren Buffett and Jack Bogles advice on the subject.

Each participant has  a personal risk tolerance and set of return/ planning objectives, which need to be individually considered and planned around.

I have over 25 years experience in the funds management business , a  CFA credential earned 17 years ago and have managed over a billion in assets - not claiming I know everything but I have seen a lot first hand.

Hi Matt,  You are correct in your logic.  It is extremely difficult to market time and beat the general averages... Many academic studies back this up.  I have my CFA and have been in the investment management industry for a long time.  Check out my new site which is intended to offer unbiased, sound general advice - hourlyinvestmentadvisor.com.
All the best,
Mark
