Re: [TSP_Strategy] Digest Number 5447

Yay for me.  On 8-29-18 I moved to 100% G and stayed there.  I'm retired and turn 70 in 2 years.

No one commenting on the market happenings today? This week? I know it's up and down but geez. Lost a year and half worth of gains here... I know, I know, long term.

It's down so low, you just gotta hold on now. Not worth risking getting out for it to go back up.  I'm just glad I sold high and bought back at a little bit of discount, but still taking a hit. Just gotta hold on now though. If you sell, you'll just be taking a loss because it will go up eventually.

On Fox news yesterday the Market analyst said with the climbing interest rates, and trade wars due to recently impose tariffs, the market may continue its volatility into the next quarter.

Just some food for thought. Personally, I'm retiring in 7 months, so I moved everything back into G for now.

We are entering a market capitulation. Once the markets get through this they will improve.

Is anyone still doubting politics are playing a major role in this? FAANG stocks all held by billionaire liberal activists, Dems win house, Maxine Waters in charge of banks....

Hitting bottom is not goal here. The progressives are Bush Bashing Trump, playing down the economy just like they did prior to Obamas entry to continue and make fully real the recession.

Sorry that this may offend you but reality dictates the truth and the truth is being told in the numbers...

Hold? Come on, that is fools gold. Should have been out prior to the election...if you think this is the bottom you are misinformed. Just turn on MSNBC AND CNN to see how happy they are regarding the market conditions...

I am curious about this market downturn. The economy is strong, low unemployment, etc. I'm not an expert but maybe part of the problem is that some companies set their expectations too high and when they don't meet them they drag everyone else with them. Apple comes to mind.

My TSP is bleeding!! Bigly!

I would say that, after the election, and the subsequent tax cut, the markets set their expectations quite high.
They did not expect the Fed to be as aggressive as it has been.
They did not expect the subsequent tariffs.
It will take time to digest these factors.

That said, any good news on either front (Fed or tariffs) should bring a quick and sudden rally, IMHO.

All of that said, we're very long into this bull market. I don't expect it to last another 2 years, regardless of these factors.

We should see an upturn in the next few weeks, and perhaps, into January.

Jpass12...the problem is that the markets have long ago priced in the forward earnings. Markets are not seeing a strong economy and are very concerned about tarrif's, oil prices, housing, mortgage rates and the list goes on and on. We might see an uptick as we get closer to the end of year (Santa Claus rally??) but even those short term gains would not put a dent in what was lost YTD. Going to take months, if not years to make it up. JMHO.

I'm just trying to settle down and realize that there will be no great
economic news for a while and that I'm in it for the Long haul. Also it is
a good time to buy low.

US markets still appear bullish short term. Bearish longer term. (Despite the recent roils)
Small caps continue to be the weaker market.

European markets look bearish short term. Bullish longer term.

Bonds are bearish at this point, from both a short and long term perspective.

USD continues to expand in value.

I plan to stay with the C fund...for now. We should still see an Xmas rally.
