I certainly hope it's possible to retire early (ish). I'm going to give it my best shot, even though I'm starting very late (I'm 36). I only have about 60k in savings, and 22k in my TSP. I was one of those folks who only did the 5% to get the matching.
Today, I adjusted my contributions to 70% of my gross salary. That should max me out at 18,000 by the end of this year. Next year, I will adjust it back to 39% of my salary, since I'll have the whole year to get to 18K. While I haven't been very smart on the TSP front, I've been fairly smart with the various costs of living (housing, cars, etc). So thankfully, I essentially have no major bills.
Since my cost of living is so low, I've decided to add a further 1,000 per month to my private portfolio. I'm looking for books, websites, or any other sources of information that will teach me how to invest my own portfolio. Do you have any ideas where I should start?
I was considering leveraged ETF's that mimic the movement of the various TSP funds, if they exist. That way, I could allocate my private funds in a manner similar to my TSP. Any thoughts?
