Good morning Tony- June 30th is the better date because under OPM FERS guidelines you have to wait one full calendar month before getting interim retirement benefits. Therefore, if you retire on June 30, your first retirement check will arrive on August 1, since you full waiting calendar month with be the entire month of July.  However, if you retire one week later on July 7, your first check will arrive on September 1, since your full waiting calendar month will be the entire month of August. Good luck on whatever you decide to do!

Sorry that this is a little off topic but since most of you are Feds and some of you are retired I'll ask anywhay.  I am in FERS and will retire very soon.  just wondering what date is better.  June 30 or July 7 and why.  June 30 is the end of the month and July 7 is the end of the pay period. Also, July is a paid holiday.
