You don't need to worry about it. The QDRO will spell it all out for her and anything taxable is her problem, not yours.

Sorry for the downer post but I have limited knowledge of money matters and need some information.
I will be getting divorced and my wife will get 1/2 of my TSP balance.
When TSP sends her the check what type of account does she need to deposit it into, and how quickly after getting the check, to avoid having to pay taxes and penalties?
If she puts it into an IRA will this make the money safe? I do realize that once she begins to take payments out of the new account she will have to pay taxes. Just want to be sure she puts it in the right place to prevent paying taxes on the whole chunk at once.
