Oh, no. I thought we will get all 5% match put in Traditional TSP, doesn't matter if we contribute up to maximum allowed to Roth or Traditional TSP.

Current 2018 limit is 18,500 for Roth & Traditional TSP total combined. Plus an extra 6,000 for catch-up over 50.
TSP will give you the automatic 1% even if you are full Roth, but if you want the extra matching you will have to keep contributing some minimum to Traditional.
I got a windfall last year, so I was maxing out everything. But, I was too aggressive. I tried to slow it down in Oct 17 so I would get matching through the last paychecks of the year. That of course was the week they went through the software upgrades and no changes could be made. I kept trying, but the upgrade stopped the contribution changes from Roth to Traditional.
Long story. But the lesson was that I only got the 1% automatic for the last four or five paychecks. They eventually called me and tried to sort it out, but it was too much for their green eye-shade folks to figure out.
Hope the helps.
