If we were really serious about stopping the influence of "illegals", why don't we do something about the approximately 40% who overstay their visas? If the wall stops 50% of those entering across the border, that means we will have solved only 30% (at best) of the "problem" at an expenditure of xx billion dollars. If we can afford that level of spending, wouldn't it make more sense to invest in infrastructure (roads, bridges, etc.)? This would not only create jobs during construction, but also afterward. Look what the Interstate Highway project did for the economy.
