Re: [TSPStrategy] Off topic: Medicare and FEHB?

And if it wasn't clear from the other's responses, you absolutely do want to keep your FEHB into retirement.  Its one of the great benefits that federal retirees have.  (But you must have been enrolled for the 5 years prior)

Jeff, the link below may help you decide. When Medicare becomes your primary insurance provider you may only need the lower cost BCBS Basic plan for secondary coverage, and BCBS will reimburse $800/year per spouse towards Medicare Part B premiums.

Being a military retiree and Tricare for Life beneficiary, I have to enroll in Medicare Part B.  Medicare Part C is not an option if I want to keep Tricare coverage.

Yes, it's allowed.  You can keep your FEHB but it will be a secondary insurance to Medicare Part B.  Medicare Part A is the hospitalization and it doesn't cost you anything extra.  It's part B that will cost you $150 or more depending on your income.  Your FEHB will take care of Medicare Part D (Prescription Meds) so you don't have to buy that.

Dear TSP Strategy members,

This year I have to sign up for Medicare Part A, as I turn 65 in December.

Are you aware of a guide I could read that would help me understand the best way to manage my FEHB insurance with Medicare Part A?

I'd just like to keep my current FEHB BlueCross plan if possible, but I don't know if that is allowed.

Thanks in advance for steering me in the right direction.

All the best,

Jeff
