Bill- I'm looking in a Lawrence Kotlikoff SS book. I don't see anything about the survivor benefit limited to the FRA. There does seem to be the normal penalty for early filing beginning at 60 (not 62) and ending when at FRA which is 66 if born between 1943 and 1954. Hope you got married after she turned 60 in order to qualify (that and she was married for 10 years) as someone mentioned. Good Luck

Thank you for the link. I read the article and it provides general information but I couldn't find anything to specifically address my question of if my wife must wait until full retirement age to collect her late husband's full S.S. monthly payment.
