Thanks. Yes. She was 60 when we got married. Her marriage to her late husband was 30 years.

Re: [TSPStrategy] Off Topic: When can a widow collect late husbands full Social Security

Bill- I'm looking in a Lawrence Kotlikoff SS book.  I don't see anything about the survivor benefit limited  to the FRA.  There does seem to be the normal penalty for early filing beginning at 60 (not 62) and ending when at FRA which is 66 if born between 1943 and 1954. Hope you got married after she turned 60 in order to qualify (that and she was married for 10 years) as someone mentioned.  Good Luck

Thank you for the link. I read the article and it provides general information but I couldn't find anything to specifically address my question of if my wife must wait until full retirement age to collect her late husband's full S.S. monthly payment.

Re: [TSPStrategy] Off Topic: When can a widow collect late husbands full Social Security

Did she remarry prior to age 60?  If yes, she is not eligible to draw benefits from her late husband until her current husband is deceased/divorced.   If she remarried after age 60, she can file for widows benefits as early as age 60 on her late husband's account.

But it is always best to contact SSA directly to get details as they apply to your specific situation.

Someone told my wife 1) She can collect his S.S. instead of hers. and 2) She can collect his Full Amount when she turns 65- rather than waiting until her full retirement age.

is this correct?

Re: [TSPStrategy] Metaverse/Cryptos/Blockchain/NFT's

This is a good article, lots of technical stuff so I have to reread it over and over. Basically the article is telling us that new interfaces have to be build in order to get the web3.0 (blockchain, NFT, metaverse) mainstream.

Re: [TSPStrategy] TSP 2022 Contribution Max Change

Re: [TSPStrategy] TSP 2022 Contribution Max Change

As long as you are over 50 sometime during 2022 you will be good.

If you are under 50 they will deduct the $1038 from each pay period until you hit the max, $20,500, or roughly 20 pay periods in 2022.  Then the next 6 pay-periods you would not contribute to the TSP nor get matching contributions for those 6 pay periods.

Subject: [TSPStrategy] TSP 2022 Contribution Max Change

The IRS has set the 2022  maximum limit (for Roth/Traditional TSP contributions) at $20,500. Employees who wish to reach this maximum, but also ensure that they receive all gov't match contributions MUST ensure the biweekly TSP contribution amount they give is 20,500 divided by  26 or the number of pay periods you have in 2022.

TSP participants turning 50 or older will have any contributions exceeding the IRS limit automatically start counting toward the IRS catch-up limit, which remains unchanged at $6,500. That equals a total contribution limit of $27,000 in the 2022 tax year. These elections will carry over each year unless the participant submits a new one.
For combining the TSP and catch-up TSP (over 50) the use the total amount of 27,000 and divide by 26 for the pay periods.
Maximum Contributions for 2022 TSP site:
The deadline for making this change to be in effect for the first withholding period in my agency is tomorrow.

Sarah,
Obviously the omnicrom threat came after your last announcement, but are you still 100% S or did you bail?  Any thoughts on where we're headed in the next weeks?
Thanks!

S fund down 9.29% since 1 Nov.  Let's hope omicron proves to be less of a threat so we might still see a Santa rally…

I think the VXF ETF and S fund are very close to eachother.  Here's a list of the VXF holdings:

Re: [TSPStrategy] S Fund

There are thousands of stocks in the S Fund. I haven't been able to find a list.

S&P 500 (C Fund) is here though: https://www.slickcharts.com/sp500
