Subject: Leadership Calling...

Ask your people at work and they will tell you, there is a difference between being a manager and being a leader. But when you ask them what that difference is, they will face a bit more difficulty in answering you. All of a sudden, these two words become fluid and undefined. Leadership is perceived as an indefinable, captivating component that some people have and the others don't.
Wrong!
The real difference between being a manager and being a leader is this: Management is your career. Leadership is your calling……
You don't have to be outstanding, well-spoken and in possession of a great deal of presence to be a successful leader. You don't have to have that "extraordinary something" to fulfil a leadership role. What you need are clearly defined beliefs and, more importantly, the courage of your convictions to see them manifest into your reality. Only when you understand your role as guide and guardian, based on your own most deeply held beliefs can you migrate from a manager to a leader.
Whether the group under your care are labelled employees, associates, team-mates or anything else, what they are looking to you for, is someone in whom they can safely place their convictions.
Someone whom they know is working for the greater good – theirs and their organisation's. They are looking for someone who they can follow, and want to follow.
It is only when your people place their trust in you that you have followers. As a leader you are functioning at such a high level of effectiveness that you are contributing to the organisational success.
However, the obsolete "command and control" administration archetypes are still applicable to many progressive 21st century companies. Yes, the controls are in place. Yes, you are solving problems. But it isn't you alone. You now also have your people in whom you have placed your trust and who have willingly placed theirs in you in order to create greater collective successes….
As you identify your beliefs and begin aligning your behaviour with your beliefs, you would need to take steps to build a concerted plan based on where you're going.
Take the time to sit back and pay attention. Look for movement and development. Discover where the possibilities are, the dots that you can connect and need to disconnect.
Be more, grow more, do more and ultimately you will have more. Become everything that you have always believed. Leaders aren't born. Embracing leadership is your decision. It is a belief and a commitment to everything that is of excellence within you.
The time is now! Be a leader.
