I'd like to give a shout out to frugality. Being frugal is creating your own opportunity for your hard-earned savings. We as federal employees are given opportunities by being federal employee (low cost retirement savings, low cost health/life insurance programs, ample leave, pension programs, etc). We can create more opportunities for our savings by being frugal and disciplined.
I'm proud to be one of those people who doesn't buy the daily crappacinno, own the sexiest of cell phones, brown bag my lunch most always, ride transit when possible, etc. I don't have to do any one of those things, but know that every little bit adds up my security. When you practice this for a long time, it becomes second nature and feels like rewarding yourself.
