The True Cost of the "Twelve Days of Christmas"

Since 1984, PNC Wealth Management ("PNC") has tracked the cost of the goods and services given as gifts in the classic "Twelve Days of Christmas" holiday song. For 2017, many prices were unchanged. The Five Gold Rings had the largest percentage price increase (+10.0% ) due to increased demand and popularity of gold, followed by a Pear Tree (+5.2%) and 10 Lords-A-Leaping (+2.0%). There were no price decreases for 2017. The overall 2017 cost was $157,588 for the gifts detailed in the verses of the song, including every repetition, which is an overall 0.7% increase from 2016. The increase was less than the U.S. Consumer Price Index year-over-year increase, which stood at 2.0% through October 2017.
