Don't feel too bad. I'm a Federal employee, but in Oakland - a Title 38 RN with the VA, not on the GS Schedule. Our salaries are (part of the VA NCHCS) tied to Sacramento, where rents are $2000 cheaper per month, on average, than the Bay Area.

Who are telling? I'm in Seattle or as they like to call it here....Silicon Valley NW. Our rental and ownership costs are maybe 3% lower than in the Bay Area. However, the Bay area got an increase...we've been at 22% as long as I can remember. I guess the fact that the Amazonians, Boeings, Starbucks, Zullily, MicroSofts and other tech giants driving up the costs of housing doesn't count!
