Re: [TSPStrategy] Off topic: Medicare and FEHB?

I'm not at the Medicare age but I like the conversation. I'm learning a lot.

I don't mind off Off topic discussions...as long as you ID off topic... fine by me. I'm enjoying the discussion ...learning a lot.

And in the summer..tsp users will have access to thousands of mutual funds now beyond C, S, and I....I predict more questions ...which good.

Yes, that's exactly what it means.  That shows consideration for the larger geoup and allows those not interested in off topic conversations to delete.

You're of course entitled to your opinion.  Much as I am when I find someone complaining that they are being "forced" to read off topic emails and disrupting what was a productive and informative conversation to be as rude as it is selfish.

So that means I can talk about anything as long as I put off topic in the heading? Have some consideration.

This is for TSP.

Not for FEHB, not for Medicare, not even for general retirement. So i can start asking about specific investments for retirement outside of TSP? as long as I have off topic in the subject?

That's what I call being selfish. Sounds like a certain generation.

This string is far more productive than some and you do know you can always just delete the messages you're not interested in right?

While I agree that this forum is primarily focused upon TSP but in what world is sharing of experience and wisdom bad?  There are a lot of very smart people in this group and I for one am glad to benefit from their experience and insight.

You guys know this email group is for TSP?

I didn't join this group to get bombarded with emails dealing with FEHB and  Medicare.

"At least no matter what happens to you health wise, you know your cost for healthcare will only be you Blue Cross and part B premium. We are only getting older and will have more health care needs in the future."

I'm still several years away from even seriously considering my decision but these are my thoughts as well.  I like the security of knowing my healthcare costs will be largely fixed to the premiums and as my wife and I age, no matter what life throws at us and as the inevitable health issues arise, we'll be covered.

In the end it's a deeply personal decision and I'm not certain there is a "right" answer.

Blue Cross also covers the $233.00 Medicare deductible. Now were talking about a 1,000 difference in your calculation. Also with basic and part b, Blue Cross offers mail order prescriptions, which can be a great savings that will further reduce the difference. Mail order prescriptions are usually only available if you have Blue Cross Standard. If you get a serious illness needing to see specialist doctor's and tests on specialized equipment, the 1,000 difference is not that great. At least no matter what happens to you health wise, you know your cost for healthcare will only be you Blue Cross and part B premium. We are only getting older and will have more health care needs in the future.

"Medicare part B and BSBS basic is best. "

Best for who?  Part B is $170 x12 = $2040  minus $800 bac from BCBS  =   $1240.   Lot of doctor visit co pays to make that worth while.
