The break even date is around age 79 between deferring Social Security and taking it at your full retirement age. If you are in pretty good health and have a family history of longevity, then you will probably be better off deferring it, but either way it's a gamble. I personally intend to defer mine if I'm healthy, but you have to make your own decision.

I wondering how to determine whether it is better to take more out of my TSP and my IRA now, and defer Social Security payments later than age 62 vs. taking the lower SS payment at age 62 and lowering my TSP/IRA payments at the same time.
