Dear Friends, Whenever research studies are performed on work life balance as well as mental health of employees, workplace bullying is reported as one of the most common cause of employee's psychological sickness. Workplace bullying exists in international corporate world and is continuing all over including India Inc. BM talked to hundreds of employees to confirm whether they have been victim of this behaviour at workplace. Almost 70% employees confirm that some time or the other either they were victim or witnessed workplace bullying but learnt to live with it as they have accepted it as a part of workplace life. Co-employees are aware of the goings - on but do not come forward to protest fearing backlash from the bully. Workplace bullying represents the soft under belly of the corporate green land. Bullying is stark reality and any attempt by organizations to hide the problem under the carpet and pretend that it does not exist is simply unacceptable equally as this psychological violence. In fact it has assumed a diabolic proportion ready to threaten the social fabric of organizational culture and overall productivity. It usually comes from managers / bosses to keep control over the subordinates by making their each workday dreadful and frightening affair by targeting their self confidence, self respect and performance. Sad part is that HR has not been able to take much effective initiatives to remove this practice so far. It is for HR to put its foot down to eradicate this menace.
