Good luck. This is why I'm always reluctant to try to out-guess the market. Timing it is too much like gambling for me. I was burned a few times in the past when I guessed wrong. You could decide tomorrow to move back out of G, and then something else comes up and the market does worse.
I mostly do buy-and-hold (C and/or S) and use a small portion of G to help take the edge off the volatility. As I've gotten closer to retirement, I keep a little more in G, but the bulk will remain in C and/or S for the most part, even into retirement.
When the market is going up, the total value of my investment doesn't go up quite as much as if I was invested in just C/S. When the market goes down (substantially), I move a portion of what I have in G into C/S; then when it goes back up, I move that same amount back into G. Small risk that things could change between when I put in a request and it is implemented, but it is easier to figure out when to move money and it helps compensate for the value not going up as much when the market is going up.
