Re: [LeadersWorkshop] How ethical we are!

I perfectly agree with this.  On the other side of the coin, let us also consider that almost every leadership principle has already been discussed and brought out in the open.  Most authors simply re-phrased/re-worded it and it becomes a "new" idea.  Let's take for example some of the old principles such as Set a Goal.  Some authors re-phrased it to say think long-term, etc.  Ultimately, it's still the same idea.

Dear All,

In reference to what Mr. Ashok Grover has brought to our notice, it is pathetic to note that anyone would pass off as his or her own creation something that has been created by another author.

You know, this is happening all over the world, and has been going on for as long as humanity has existed, in different forms!! This has also been recognized in more regulated societies, we may say "more civilized" societies, and there are strict measures to cull this habit. The result is definitely seen in those societies - many more original thought processes, many more inventions, much more research, and so on.

Mr. Grover, it will take a lot of will power, volition, self respect & respect of others' work, as well as stricter enforcement by regulating authorities for our society in India to see such progress. Till then, let us - you, me and others - contribute to such lofty thoughts, and hope that we have made a small difference within our own groups, networks and friends, colleagues, fellow professionals, etc.

But, if this is happening within, say, a yahoo group - it is not only pathetic but also pitiable. I should say, within a group, if such plagiarism is noticed - let us be bold enough to point it out to the group and let us collectively "look down" upon such "thieves" of intellectual effort. There is no mechanism by which anyone (not even the group moderators) can keep track of all that is dished out on these sites. There is so much "clutter" that one is not able to even keep up with the stuff that is put into these mails ans posts.

I'm sure you are with me on this, dear members and moderators!!

Let us try and make these forums healthy sites for exchange of intellectual ideas. Even I use ideas of others, all of us do. But giving recognition to the originator should be our own upliftment in our own eyes rather than taking credit for something created by another. And if we are "compelled" to copy out the whole work of another verbatim, we should actually seek the original author's permission!!

With best regards,

Dr. Param D. Singh

Dear Friends,

It really gives you a great feeling to see your name in the print.  People do appreciate when you share good articles on various forums lime Yahoo groups.

But is it really ethical to pass it on as your creativity without mentioning even name of the authors.  I was shocked to see some such cases.  In fact, was able to catch it fast, when I saw that these articles were authored by me.  It may be taken as a complaint by the moderators (if they care!).

But, in fact I would invite your mature responses - including from the friends who are very active on the net and are indulging into such practice.

Regards,

Ashok Grover
