Re: [TSPStrategy] Staying/Leaving TSP Upon Retirement

You could rollover your TSP and place in an index fund similar to C, S or I offerings, without paying the expensive management fee and avoiding your roth being included in RMD calculations.  Just about every brokerage house has a low cost total stock market mutual fund or etf.  I am familiar with Schwab's and Vanguard's etf's SCHB and VTI as good low cost Total stock market index funds.  Expense ratios are .03%, which is 50% lower than C fund and 100% lower than S fund.

I don't give investment advice, but I plan to roll my tsp over to accounts that accommodate friendly withdrawals, most likely with Schwab.  These 2 etf's offer great opportunity and exposure to the market.  TSP process is too bureaucratic and formal.  If I want a hundred extra bucks for a couple months, I should be able to do that.  TSP requires you to envision your needs for the 12 month period following every December's withdrawal election process.  Every commercial withdrawal is very flexible to accommodate the client's needs; TSP's is not.

Unfortunately outside of a cash position, there is nothing equal to the G fund where you are guaranteed you can't lose money.
