Five Signs You're Losing a Sale --
 And How to Save It
 By Jane Porter|

Marla Kaye could not afford to lose this deal. She had watched sales at You Name It Promotions, her Oakland, Calif.-based promotional products company, drop by more than half since the start of the recession--from $3.5 million in 2007 to $1.5 million last year. When a six-figure sale to a new client seemed about to fall through this spring, she had to act fast.
The technology company Kaye was courting wanted a customized USB drive with its brand name on it to hand out at trade shows. When Kaye, 58, found out the client was planning to go with a cheaper bid from a competitor, she stepped her offering up a few notches--shaping the device like the company's logo and loading it with files about its product. "I said, 'Give me a chance to show you why what we do will stand out,'" she says. "We saved it by doing more work than just answering a bid."

Having a keen eye for when a sale is going sour takes savvy. Here are five red flags and
strategies for saving the sale:

No. 1: If a Potential Client Seems Indifferent.

A client who is interested in doing business with you should have questions and concerns. If they don't outright reject you but don't have any questions either, be on the alert, warns Victor Cheng, author of the book Extreme Revenue Growth (Innovation Press, 2007).
To resolve this problem, he suggests creating more of an advisory relationship with clients. You can let them know that you'll help either to solve their problem or point them in the direction of another business that might be a better fit. Offering to help people find other vendors might seem counterintuitive, but it can go a long way to earn the trust you may need to win over a client, Cheng says. "People will share more with an advisor than a salesperson. It's more of a dialogue than a broadcast."

No. 2: If There's No Hard Deadline For a Decision
Having urgency around a sale is
important, Cheng believes. Early in the process, ask potential clients about their timeframe. You want to prioritize those companies that have a hard deadline.
You can find ways to firm up deadlines, says Rich Sloan, co-founder of StartupNation.com, a Birmingham, Mich.-based business-advice website. He suggests limited-time offers or discounts to create urgency around a sale. "The only way you get someone engaged is to find their buttons," Sloan says. Perhaps point out what the competition is doing, or identify the financial risk involved in not acting quickly on the sale.

No. 3: If You Aren't Dealing With the Decision Maker
You may start out talking with a junior-level employee who is vetting options, but beware if you aren't put in touch with the decision maker after a few conversations. It's probably a sign the company isn't serious about buying, Cheng says.
Getting past that roadblock can be challenging. The bigger the organization you are dealing with, the more layers of management you likely will have to penetrate, Sloan says. He recommends creating a presentation that your initial contact can easily show to upper management. You also might request a quick conference call with the senior-level person involved. "It's a sticky situation because you need to be respectful of the person you are talking to and not undermine them," Sloan says.

No. 4: If Your Price is Too High
People generally object to a price because they believe they can find the same product or service for less or because you're trying to sell more than they need, Cheng says.
If your competitors are offering a lower price, focus on how you can provide added value, as Kaye did with her customized USB. But if you're offering more than a client needs, you may need to scale back the initial proposal, Cheng says. You also could offer creative payment alternatives, Sloan suggests, such as incentives on the first purchase if the customer continues to buy more.

No. 5: If You're Asked For a Proposal Instead of a Conversation.
When potential clients ask for a proposal before agreeing to talk with you, it's usually a sign they're simply gathering price quotes from vendors, Cheng says.
Before submitting a proposal, ask what the client is looking for and what criteria will be used to make the decision. Reaching a verbal understanding on those issues increases the likelihood that you'll get the sale. "The problem with a proposal is there is no chance for them to tell you what is wrong with it," Cheng says, "as opposed to working through all the nuances verbally.".

[LeadersWorkshop] Boss.......

Boss

There were about 70 scientists working on a very hectic project. All of them were really frustrated due to the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone was loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job.

One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him - Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5 30 pm.

His boss replied "OK, You're permitted to leave the office early today"

The Scientist started working. He continued his work after lunch. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion. The time was 8.30 PM.

Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children. He looked for his boss, He was not there. Having told him in the morning itself, he closed everything and left for home. Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children. He reached home.

Children were not there. His wife alone was sitting in the hall and reading magazines.

The situation was explosive; any talk would boomerang on him. His wife asked him "Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry.

The man replied "If you would like to have coffee, i too will have but what about Children??"

Wife replied "You don't know?? Your manager came here at 5.15 PM and has taken the children to the exhibition "

What had really happened was ...

The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 PM. He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition.

So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition. The boss does not have to do it every time. But once it is done, loyalty is established.

That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss even though the

stress was tremendous.

By the way, can you hazard a guess as to who the boss was..?

He was none other than Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former-President of India . . .

[LeadersWorkshop] Fw: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~..Giving..~~~.. Inspiring Story

 Inspiring Story

Inspiring Story

"A man there was, and they called him mad,

The more he gave, the more he had."

Most times, we think that we don't have anything to give. Yet, if we look more closely, we 'll see that even the little we have could be shared with others. Let us not wait for a time when we think we'll have lots and then we'll give. By giving and sharing the little we have, we open up the storehouse of the universe and permit rivers of good to come our way.

Don't take my word for it. Just honestly try to give and you'll be surprised at the results. Generally, the returns do not come back from those we give to. It comes back from sources we could hardly imagine. So give your way to riches.

Take a chance on this universal principle. Take a chance on yourself. Universal principles always work.

Sometimes the return from giving happens very quickly as in the true story above. Other times, it takes much longer. But be assured of this: Give and you will receive - and you'll receive lots more than you ever gave.

And when you give, don't do it with a heart of fear, but with a heart full of gratitude. You will be amazed at how it all works out.

Open the gates of affluence in your life by giving a bit of what you have to those in need. As the great Teacher said, Give and it will be given unto you in good measure, pressed down shaken together and runneth over will men give unto your bosom....Luke 6:38

Try it. You'll like it.

[LeadersWorkshop] Fw: ~~~~~~...Executive Health..~~~~~~..Agnisar Pranayama: Source of Internal Energy

[LeadersWorkshop] Fw: ~~~~~~...Executive Health..~~~~~~..Agnisar Pranayama: Source of Internal Energy

Agnisar Pranayama: Source of Internal Energy

Agnisar Pranayama: Source of Internal Energy

Agnisar pranayama increases the internal energy and gives vitality. Those who are suffering with constipation, indigestion and loss of appetite they should get good benefits with its regular practice. People with excessive fat on the stomach should practice it regularly to reduce the fat. This pranayama overcomes laziness, disinterest and strengthens the internal organs, muscles, nerves and blood veins. People suffering with lung problems can gain a lot. This pranayama cures asthma, tuberculosis and other serious diseases. It also cures the entire throat related problems and old kapha problems. It cures sleepiness and circulates inner energy. So that person gets the capacity to do his duties and is fit to face the day-to-day problems. The person is always happy and active.

Agnisar Pranayama

A regular practitioner of this pranayama makes the person expert in padmasana, which will be beneficial. This pranayama gives momentum to fire in the stomach. The fire is present inside the body. It produces heat in the minute and big parts and makes the body and mind active and strong. The main objective of this pranayama is strengthening the inner energy.

First Method of Agnisar Pranayama:

Sit in Padmasana and keep the hands on the knees in a comfortable position. Close the eyes slightly and concentrate on the mind with normal breathing.

Exhale slow, deep and stable breathe. Stop the breathe outside, i.e., do Bahirmukh. Stretch both the hands straight and keep them on the knees with slight pressure. Contract and expand the stomach. Try to touch the navel deep inside the stomach.

Keep the stomach and hands normal before doing poorak i.e., inhale. Now take deep, stable and slow breathe.

This is one cycle of Agnisar pranayama. In one cycle contract and expand the stomach at least ten times. Increase the number to 30. In the beginning practice it for 5 times and then slowly increase is it up to 15 cycles. During winters you can practice it for 25 cycles. Breathe normally, rest for sometime and then do shavasana.

Second Method of Agnisar Pranayama:

Remain in Shavasana for five to ten minutes and take deep breathe as in the first stage. Stop the breathe inside and do Antarkumbhak. Do moolbandha and Jalandhar bandha at this stage.

As in the first method, stretch the hands straight and bend the head as much as you can and try to touch the chest with the chin. Do moolbandha along with this so that the moolbandha is stretched upwards.

Before exhaling loosen the moolbandha and then the Jalandhar bandha. Keep the hands normal. Then deeply breath in like in the first stage.

This is one cycle. Rest for some time in Shavasana after doing five to seven cycles of this pranayama.

Cautions while practicing Agnisar Pranayama:

This pranayama should be done in the morning hours after passing bowels and getting free from the morning chores. Those who want to practice it in the evening should do after four hours of having meals.

During winters, Agnisar pranayama should be done as per the procedures. This is the best time for this pranayama. During summers after doing this pranayama ten rounds of Shitali pranayama should be definitely practiced.

During the practice period the person should eat simple, pure food. Avoid eating heavy, oily, fried and non-vegetarian food.

Smoking and alcohol should be completely avoided.

The patients of intestinal problems, hernia, high blood pressure and other diseases should not practice it.

If you have undergone stomach operation recently then this pranayama should not be practiced. It should be done under the guidance of some yoga expert after few months.

Stop the practice immediately if you experience tiredness and practice it the other day.

Practice it according to your physical capacity. Do not do kumbhak in excess of your body capacity. Make sure that during Bahirkumbhak slightest air should not get inside.

Patients suffering with ear, nose and eye problems should not practice agnisar pranayama.

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There
is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in
pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France
. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We
take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that
quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither
from Guinea nor is it a pig..

And why is it that writers write but
fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of
tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one
moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make
amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of
all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't
preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian
eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum
for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at
a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet
that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a
wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy
of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you
fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going
on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the
creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is
why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they
are invisible.

PS. - Why doesn't 'Buick' rhyme with 'quick'
?

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this
...

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any
other two-letter word, and that is 'UP.'

It's easy to understand UP,
meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the
morning, why do we wake UP ?
At a meeting, why does a topic come UP?
Why
do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the
secretary to write UP a report?
We call UP our friends.
And we use it to
brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver; we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP
the kitchen.
We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car.
At
other times the little word has real special meaning.
People stir UP trouble,
line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses.
To be dressed
is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.
A drain must be opened UP
because it is stopped UP.
We open UP a store in the morning but we close it
UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP!
To be
knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the
dictionary.
In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page
and can add UP to about thirty definitions.
If you are UP to it, you might
try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used.
It will take UP a lot of
your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or
more.
When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP.
When the sun
comes out we say it is clearing UP.
When it rains, it wets the earth and
often messes things UP.
When it doesn't rain for a while, things dry
UP.

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP,
for now my time is
UP,
so........it is time to shut UP!
Now it's UP to you what you do with
this email.
You still think English is easy...?

[LeadersWorkshop] Burden of my own

[LeadersWorkshop] Burden of my own

Burden Of My Own

A Monarch of long ago had twin sons. As they grew to young manhood, the king sought a fair way to designate one of them as crown prince. All who knew the young men thought them equal in intelligence, wit, personal charm, health, and physical strength. Being a keenly observant king, he thought he detected a trait in one which was not shared by the other.

Calling them to his council chamber one day, he said, "My sons, the day will come when one of you must succeed me as king. The weight of sovereignty is very heavy. To find out which of you is better able to bear them cheerfully, I am sending you together to a far corner of the kingdom.

One of my advisors there will place equal burdens on your shoulders. My crown will one day go to the one who first returns bearing his yoke like a king should."

In a spirit of friendly competition, the brothers set out together. Soon they overtook an aged woman struggling under a burden that seemed far too heavy for her frail body. One of the boys suggested that they stop to help her. The other protested: "We have a saddle of our own to worry about. Let us be on our way."

The objector hurried on while the other stayed behind to give aid to the aged woman. Along the road, from day to day, he found others who also needed help. A blind man took him miles out of his way, and a lame man slowed him to a cripple's walk.

Eventually he did reach his father's advisor, where he secured his own yoke and started home with it safely on his shoulders.

When he arrived at the palace, his brother met him at the gate, and greeted him with dismay.

He said, "I don't understand. I told our father the weight was too heavy to carry. However did you do it?"

The future king replied thoughtfully, "I suppose when I helped others carry their yoke, I found the strength to carry my own."
