70 things one should know while starting career and during his career.

After years of experience in job and feedbacks from friends in other industry led to following list of things that we should have known and should know when we start our career. Just add your thoughts on the same to make the list comprehensive guide for better Career.

1. The career you think you're going to have? This is not the career you're going to end up with. The job you went to college for? That's not the job you're going to end up with.

2. You will spend a good portion of your work day with nothing to do.

3. Meetings almost never solve anything and never end on time.

4. You will seriously embarrass yourself, and possibly endanger your career at at least one (and maybe more) of your office Christmas parties.

5. Trusting co-workers can be bad for your career.

6. The movie Office Space isn't just a comedy.

7. Pay is really about sitting or standing. The more you are sitting, the more you get paid.

8. Having a passing knowledge of current sports events is a critical skill for office small talk.

9. You're probably way, way overeducated for the job you're in. A good 30 thousand of those student loans you're still paying off were wasted.

10. There are plenty more important things in life than your career.

11. You know that 401 k matching plan? It was really a pretty good idea. Grab a calculator. Calculate how much more money you'd have today if you had started contributing the day you were hired instead of 2 years ago when you finally broke down and did it. Now faint.

12. Some workplaces function EXACTLY like high school.

13. The company's stock will not always go up.

14. Learning to look busy is a valuable survival skill.

15. You're unlikely to ever meet a happy accountant.

16. No one really takes the time to adequately train you. All new employees are inadequately trained.

17. Upper management is more focused on improving their golf game than improving their company's bottom line.

18. The mistakes you make are sometimes more valuable than the things you did exactly right.

19. When your career is the only good thing you've got going in your life, it's time to reassess your life.

20. That temporary job you settled for… is it really temporary if you're still in it after all this time?

21. Tuf wars and office politics exist in every office, no matter how small.

22. Be nice to the administrative assistants; they are the key to everything because they keep the world turning.

23. It's rare that your colleagues are actually smarter than you; it's all confidence.

24. Old white guys are not old and wise guys.

25. Dear lord, office bathrooms can be gross.

26. You never really get to rest. A career is about always building, always moving forward.

27. Your boss is a human being too.

28. No one will believe in you more than you.

29. And if you don't believe in you, you're not going anywhere.

30. Office gossip can be positively deadly.

31. Sometimes the game is rigged.

32. Lunch - try to never skip it. You do not earn points for working through it and it helps you stay sane.

33. It IS possible to one day wake up and realize you hate your dream job.

34. You fear taking your eye off the ball, but sometimes that is really what you NEED to do.

35. The car you drive to work is very important. Office workers put a lot of value judgments on fellow workers vehicles.

36. Timing, like location, is literally EVERYTHING.

37. Networking is not just a buzzword: it's the most valuable thing you can do for your career.

38. Take the lowest paying job with the best job description and title, rather than the best paying job with the worst job title.

39. "Follow-through" is a great characteristic to be known for when you are first hired.

40. Do what you love, even if it pays less than something you're good at.

41. Set personal goals.

42. Stay away from those who say "You Can't".

43. Plan and prepare for the long haul.

44. To land a meaningful job, prepare for a really tough interview.

45. Keep improving through the job search and beyond.

46. Develop a personal board of advisors for support.

47. Surround yourself with a diverse group of people with diverse thoughts.

48. Develop a backbone. Even successful careers can have disappointments

49. Think around, outside and under the box. The way forward may not necessarily be clear or straight ahead

50. Don't expect your career paths to be logical to everyone looking on.

51. Don't burn your bridges behind you. You may need a reference or two eventually

52. Be mindful of what your associations can say about who you are.

53. You don't need to have all the experience in the job description to apply.

54. Job descriptions get rewritten all the time.

55. Be open to the fact that you might be underestimated.

56. Some people will like you for the job and some will not.

57. Some will laugh behind your back when they find out you are applying for a certain job.

58. The real work begins after you land the job.

59. Know your competition and do not underestimate them.

60. Think transferable skills.

61. You may have to say things during an interview to impress your future boss.

62. You have to build consensus to move ideas forward.

63. Keep track of your accomplishments; no one else is obligated to do that for you.

64. You may find people want to hang around you, just because you are successful – not because they care.

65. Education and training mean something.

66. Hard work and discipline pays off eventually.

67. It is not a shame to strategically plan your career.

68. Many people are not working in their college majors.

69. The more people who support you and your ideas, the more successful you will be.

70. You are always preparing for your next career opportunity, regardless of what you are doing

[LeadersWorkshop] The power of the subconscious mind

[LeadersWorkshop] The power of the subconscious mind

Visualization

The language of your subconscious mind

Visualization or mental picture is the language of your subconscious mind.

If you choose to remember only one thing out of all the articles I've written, please remember this:

"Your subconscious mind cannot differentiate what is real or vividly imagined. Through repetition, the image you visualize must come to pass."

Let me illustrate this statement with a real story that I've extracted from the book "The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind".

A young pharmacist, being inspired by Dr. Joseph Murphy, began to imagine that she was in her own store, arranging the bottles, dispensing prescriptions and waiting on customers. Mentally she worked in that imaginary store.

Several years later, her work took her to a small town where there was only one drugstore. When she walked into the store she was surprised that it was exactly the store she had visualized. More amazingly, the store owner was ready to retire and was willing to let her own the store while providing her with the financial support she needed.

That's the power of visualization.

Visualization is not just seeing what you desire in your mind's eye. It is about living in your mind's eye. When I say living, I mean using your five senses to make the images as real as possible.

The best time to do visualization is when you are in alpha because when you are in alpha, you can concentrate on your inner world and fully immerge yourself in your world of visualization.

As what Jose Silva put it, the difference between visualizing in beta and alpha is like saying the word swim and actually swimming. (If you do not know what I mean by beta and alpha,

When you visualize in Alpha, you will realize that you can visualize better and the images that you visualize will be so vivid that you may end up thinking that the images are real!

The clearer the visualization, the faster it shows up in reality.

One problem that many people face when starting to do visualization is that they keep changing what they visualize before the goal is achieved. This is often due to lack of self-understanding and poor goal setting technique.

If you are still searching for the right path, you may go into different opportunities.

For example, you may go into a sales job, and you started to visualize yourself being the top salesperson in the company. But before you achieve the goal, you realized that sales is not something you like. Your goal changed and what you visualized changes as a result.

This is bad because in success psychology, we always say success attracts success and failure attracts failure. When you have a successful experience, it is easier for your subconscious mind to relate to that experience and thus bring more of such experience to you.

But if you keep having unsuccessful experiences, you will naturally fill your subconscious mind with images of those experiences, which becomes a hindrance in achieving your other goals.

In fact, one very powerful technique of goal achievement is to condition your subconscious mind with a successful past experience and convert that experience into your new goal that you want to achieve. This technique basically deceives your subconscious mind to believe that what you want has already happened so that it automatically brings forth the belief into reality.

If you keep changing what you visualize or keep changing your goals, your faith in visualization will fall and your confidence in yourself will also sink. In this case, the more you visualize, the more you fail to achieve your goals and the worse you feel about yourself. Eventually visualization becomes a tedious and unrewarding process that actually hinders your progress instead of helping you!

The only reason why visualization doesn't work is because you are not sure of what you want. If you are very sure of what you want, visualization must work for you!

Hi Nimisha,

 I think i am the most suffering person because of the subconcious. In my childhood i was not a very good looking girl and had a pigmented neck. Now since things have changed i still feel that if am having dark neck and that now actually comes and goes.This may sound little easy for me but for me my heart actually beats faster on seeing my neck in the mirror.This is a power of subconcious mind

 PUT YOUR BEHIND IN YOUR PAST

 PUT YOUR BEHIND IN YOUR PAST

I like what Miguel de Cervantes, the author of DON QUIXOTE, said,
"Love not what you are, but what you may become." There is hope that
I can always change for the better. I can become more self confident,
More in charge of my life, healthier, happier -- you get the idea.
And there is hope that I can change a situation -- like finding a new
Career or going after a new life-style.

If you're like me, making any big changes can be scary. We will have
To COMMIT. And we may have to take a risk.

Let me illustrate what I mean:

Consider a performer on a trapeze. She swings back and forth. And
Then she encounters another trapeze bar. It is swinging toward her
And it is empty. Now she has a decision to make. She may continue to
Hang onto her present bar, or let go and grasp the new one. But she
Can't do both! She can't hang onto the old and grasp the new with her
Other hand. She HAS to decide which she wants.

If she chooses to let go of the past and grasp the future, she finds
Herself suspended for a moment in mid-air. Scary! It's too late to go
Back and she has not yet latched onto the other bar. She is
Vulnerable and at risk. But she has decided to take that risk in
Order to move forward.

Life is like that. Sometimes you have let go of something if you want
To latch onto something else. Maybe you will need to let go of an old
Job in order to take a new one. Or you may have to let go of an old
Relationship before fitting a new one into your life. You have to let
Go of other priorities on your time or money before grasping that new
Opportunity.

And for a while you may feel suspended in mid-air. You've committed
To something new and let go of the past, but you have not yet grasped
What is ahead. You feel vulnerable and you may be frightened. But you
Know that the only way you can reach the new "bar" is to let go of
The old one.

But like Simba (from "The Lion King") says, "Ya gotta put your behind
In your past." Then you're ready for whatever comes next.

[LeadersWorkshop] ~~~~: Interesting article.. The Power of Now

[LeadersWorkshop] ~~~~: Interesting article.. The Power of Now

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~POWER OF NOW...
"And what if the tomorrow that I take for
 granted never comes? Or what if tomorrow is
 my last day on earth?"
   Martha, an old woman of 85, was obsessed with
 thoughts like these. She lived alone in her big
 apartment, surrounded by objects from her past.
   She would worry all night long, getting up
 to walk around, then returning to her empty bed,
 turning the thoughts over and over in her mind
 like a dog gnawing an old bone. She did it so
 much that finally her fear turned into wisdom.
   The next morning she made herself a promise.
 "I am going to live each and every day as if it
 were my last! That's the only way to really enjoy
 life."
   Now Martha reads a lot and spends (a-take out)
 less time dusting old furniture. She admires the
 flowers in her garden without worrying too much
 about the weeds that crop up here and there.
   She invites people she likes to her home, but
 doesn't sit there waiting for them to arrive. And
 when they do arrive, she uses her best china to
 serve tea and cake, without worrying about a
 precious cup or plate getting dirty or being
 broken.
   She's started wearing the beautiful red cashmere
 jacket her grandchildren gave her for Christmas.
 She even wears it to go out walking, and puts a
 dab of her best perfume behind her ears.
   But most importantly, Martha has stopped saying,
 "I'll do that one day, when I have the time."
   Now she says, "If it's worth doing, I'm going to
 do it now!"
 ............ ......... ......... ......... ......... ..
   Like Martha, you, too, should think about what
 you'd do if someone said, "This is your last day on earth!"
   You would realize that priorities fall into place
 naturally, that many things resolve themselves and
 that whatever is superfluous in your life disappears.
 Don't wait for the day when tragedy strikes to force
 you to consider what it is you really want to do in
 life.
 "At each and every moment, the future is pressuring
 the present to become the past."
 Aragon
